OUR CREED

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers for by doing so, some have unwittingly entertained Angels unawares... Hebrews 13:2

OUR VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization. Giving from the deepest core of their souls make the difference for our guest. When you give freely of yourself your soul is fed too.  If you have a heart for giving back to the community and wish to be one of our champion volunteers,  call us today, we do and will have many opportunities to volunteer in many areas where you are an expert......Giving from your soul to others is humanity at it's very best.

The President /CEO of safe harbor sanctuary was my high school teacher and mentor in Tennessee. She often spoke of her work in foster care as a social worker, working with the homeless and women in crisis in California. When I was to begin my freshman year of College, I was short on financial aid to clear to begin my classes and saw my dream of college slipping away. I called her and she immediately went to work looking for financial aid on my behalf. Overnight she found $16,000.00, after we tweaked my major and I was cleared to begin my freshman year at middle Tennessee state university (MTSU). I just completed my junior year and helping others is part of my personal constitution. My mentor helped me see this is how I can give back to society and become my sisters keeper. I have since changed my major to social work because giving back to me is automatic. My college education is three quarters over and I am a fuller human being due to Dr. Taylor's help finding ways for my college dream to become reality. If she can help she will find a way and I quote Dr. Taylor's and Malcolm X "By Any Means Necessary" she will help if she can and find a way.

Homeless and lost on the streets of Los Angeles for 6 years, suffering from acute schizophrenia, diabetes,  and congestive heart failure. The president /CEO personally helped me and took care of me, helping me come off the street, finding housing, fed me, till my family was located in Virginia & Baltimore, MD. I am now safe and home with my loving family. Safe harbor is just that sanctuary from the world of evil. This help from her saved my life as the doctors who treated me in the ER said one more week on the street I would have been dead. She never gave up on me she became my sisters keeper. She always quoted a Scripture, Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing some have unwittingly entertained Angels, Hebrews 13:2. She says I was her Angel. This agency is the real deal if they can help they will do all possible to help you and your loved ones in crisis.

Update 11/2020 Ms. Joyce is thriving!!! She has moved into her own apartment 5 minutes from her daughter and grandchildren. This is a major blessing and big step to live on her own. Keep her in your prayers as she continues to build her life. So excited to provide an update on such a beautiful soul.

I have known the Dr. Taylor the president/ CEO of safe harbor sanctuary all of my life and know she is a compassionate, caring, dedicated, passionate champion for the lost and invisible citizens of our society. She sees the people on the fringes of society and does not ignore them. My mother is an educator and raised my sister and I to be compassionate giving back in all we do. Dance is one of those areas I am passionate about and mentoring is my gift to youth. I am the blessed one to work with such amazing youth and adults. I grew up in south central Los Angeles and attended a famous dance academy founded by a famous actress and dancer.  I was gifted the opportunity of working with some of the cities best and brightest talents.  As I grew into an adult I became a dance instructor at the academy. Safe harbor sanctuary will offer chances for the women to dance as options in fitness. Volunteering at the safe harbor shelters and  transitional homes teaching dance will be a blessing to the woman and myself as well.

I am Maggie Jo, I was 19 and living on the streets of Hollywood California. I ran away from home at the age of 13 after years of sexual abuse by my mothers boyfriends. I told my mother and my aunts and they did not believe me. So I ran away and never looked back. Cold, sick and hungry on the streets of Hollywood, ready to give up.  Safe harbor sanctuary showed up right at the right moment. They had hot soup, a sandwich. water, and clean warm clothes and a blanket. I was shivering and they had a nurse with them. She asked could she take my temperature and I let her. It was 105, she called 911. Turns out I was very sick and spent 6 weeks in the Hospital. At 19 years of age, I had an STD that had been untreated for years. It scared me so, I had to have a hysterectomy because of the damage it caused. When I was released Safe Harbor was there to take me to my new home. They visited me everyday I was in the hospital.  I had a warm bed, new sheets, brand new Pillow, new PJ's, socks, new clothes, new shoes,  pretty Pink Robe and warm fuzzy slippers.  I had never in my life met people who cared and looked for nothing in return. They showed compassion  that to this day I still have a hard time believing it happen to me. They saved my life that night and I could never say thank you enough.  Giving Back is the core of our society having checks and balances. Working with the President/CEO of this organization has opened doors for me to attend school, I now have a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and have applied to Graduate School to pursue my MSW.  I have also worked on Volunteer projects all around the world in Costa Rica, Argentina, Mexico and here at home in the US. This Agency will do all they can to help those who need help. If help is out there they will find it aid those most in need.
